Day 79 - Slowly, slowly…..

Still frustrating conditions preventing Flying Ferkins from making Westerley direction.  Andrew and Guy are using the para anchor when necessary.  Hopefully the wind will reduce over the next few days.  Given the slow process at the moment the boys are really enjoying your comments.  Thank you to everyone for your continued support.

Distance made West: Tues 7th 15nm.

Tom out.

This is all too teasing now, so close and yet so far!!! Also in response to the previous comment about Cracknell and Fogle crossing antartica, thought might be amusing to say that half way through this challenge Andrew treated me to dinner to only sit me down and say he was considering doing the same challenge next!!!!! I will leave my response to your imagination…………………Lets hope the sores in delicate places, food cravings and extreme weather conditions may put them off.

Joking aside they have achieved so much, Come on Boys

    Hi guys,

Been following your progress daily but first time I’ve gotten round to signing up and posting a comment. I think it’s amazing what you are doing and keep it up, not far to go now.

Oh and Andy, I hope you’ve not been doing a ‘Winchy’ out there during your shift on the oars?

Good luck for the rest of the race.

  3. JeremyChristey Says:

Yea Pascoe, Valerie did mention the Antarctic thing to me too…

matt - thanks for signing up - anyone else is welcome, do keep comments coming one and all, old and new!

By the way girls, hurry up - get a move on, cold beers are waiting, how hard can it be?!

    G’day chaps!

I want you to remember these words over the next few weeks when you’re closing in on the finish line and you’re neck and neck with those other dudes:

    Clear eyes
    Full hearts
    Can’t lose

In the meantime, to add a bit of maritime flavour to whole proceedings, what’s your favourite film that features a boat/submarine/dingy?

Mine is Master and Commander although I am partial to a bit of Titanic when I’m alone.

Chin up boys, not far now…

    Sx

    Hey guys
Passed the 1000 matk…wooooo hooooo! That is friggin awesome news. Sorry you are on the para anchor again, but am sure you will be off it again soon, and surfing those waves!
Think I needed to be on your boat today with the torrential down pours we have just had!
Keep up the awesome work and catch that other pair up…so close!
    xx

Not so much a comment, more a question.
One of the boats we are building at the moment has queried setting the dagger board off the centreline. So: have you used the dagger board? If so did you notice any drag to one side as a result of the offset?
I most ways I hope you are much too busy rowing to answer this comment! But feedback eventually on what did and didn’t work would be much appreciated.
You obviously liked crossing the 1000m mark so much that you’re doing it again.

I don’t remember jokes, but this from our Irish friend Dermod:
Man walks into the pub and asks the barman “Those penguins - what sort of size are they?”
Barman indicates something around three feet tall.
Man questions this and asks if they aren’t sometimes bigger.
Barman insists that no, they are no bigger.
    Man says
Ah well, that must’ve been a nun we knocked down then.

  7. Claire Says:

Sarah he is going to have to come up with a VERY good reason!!

  8. Pascoe Says:

maybe they could take a detour with the boat and do both challenges in one!!!

Think at the moment antartica is on the back burner and heres hoping it stays there. Otherwise feel we will be the long suffering girlfriend and mother a tad longer!!

  9. JeremyChristey Says:

rossiter - no sideways drag reported from the dagger board, they’ve played with it in various positions, mixed reports, has uses in some windows of opportunity.

gang, FF are still under para anchor as SC have snuck away NW in slightly different wind, but we hope to be off by the weekend as the wind drops slightly.

    going stir crazy!!!

Antarctica? I’d heard the North Pole!!

    Alright boys,

Just thought I would let you know I am still alive after the dirty stag weekend in Newcastle. I won’t spare any of the gory details over the blog but it was top notch. Paintballing on saturday morning after a very large drinking session the night before was interesting. Somehow, I managed to shoot my own team member in the back of the head at point blank range. Having to drink from a beer bottle covered with my sock were just a few of the delights that I experienced! I have lots of photos for you to enjoy when you get back.

Sorry to hear about the weather down there on the ocean, sounds bloody frustrating but you have done fantastic to get this far so keep it up or I will send Mr T after you in a helicopter like in the Snickers advert! Keep on rowing fools!

Just watching the first day of the Ashes series at the moment. England are batting and are 120-3 at the moment.

Keep on going boys and let’s get some decent weather behind you.

  12. Claire Says:

yes if the Arctic or Antarctica or whatever stay on the back burner they might melt - problem solved! :-)
